Queer & Trans Eating Disorder Recovery Peer Support Group

“Eating disorders thrive in isolation.”

This is often one of the first statements I make when I embark on the journey of recovery with a new client. In fact, many eating disorders are a response to social, familial, or emotional isolation; a repackaging of a wound or trauma that led to feeling alone, ashamed, or alienated. Because isolation drives the cycle of eating disorder behavior (as evidenced by secrecy, shame, and a notion that we’re singularly responsible for our behaviors), allowing yourself to be witnessed by others during the recovery process is a practice in liberation from the ED. Tender, yes; terrifying, absolutely!! And truly liberatory.

You have landed here because there’s some part of you that’s ready to be witnessed and bear witness; to deepen your commitment to recovery by letting complete strangers (who will become fast confidants) know that they are not alone in the messy unfucking of their relationship to their eating disorder, while, in turn, having the same experience, as you realize we’re all stumbling toward repair inside of a colonialist system that wants us to fear our bodies.

Each session will be a practice in presence, deep listening, and radical compassion for the self and others. Your stories and lived experiences with eating disorder recovery will invite us into deeper inquiry and curiosity around what’s possible in recovery. We’ll collectively build skills in trauma-sensitive mindfulness, somatic attunement, and non-violent communication while staying committed to cultivating joy and connection along the way. This is a queer, trans, and LGBTQIA+-centered affinity space that allows folks from the LGBTQIA+ community to unpack the ways that cis-heteronormativity influences our relationships to our bodies and eating disorder recovery.

This group is ideal for those who are…

  • in outpatient recovery with an established clinician (therapist, nutritionist, coach, etc) who supports them in 1:1 care

  • looking for adjunct support as they maintain or establish behavioral and relational patterns that feel aligned with ED recovery

  • ready to share their experience with ED recovery in a group setting

About Your Facilitator

Nancy (she/her) is a private practice clinician who specializes in eating disorder recovery, somatic stewardship, and anti-colonial nutrition counseling. She holds over 12 years of experience in the field of nutrition, which has largely focused on working within BIPOC communities. Her identities as a queer, Asian American parent of three young kiddos heavily influences her work in private practice especially in the way she uses joy, connection, and curiosity to create liberatory spaces. To learn more about Nancy and her work, visit the About page.
